As many of you know, my dad lost Ceaser in a hunting accident 2 weeks ago. My brother and my dad went to a game farm and during a retrieve, he was hit by a car and killed. Getting that news was so difficult. I can close my eyes and still feel him pushing his nose in my face to lick me. I can feel his fur in-between my fingers and hear him run to the door to greet me. He was a one-of-a-kind dog with great instinct and the most loving spirit. He was so smart and an incredible hunter. I know he died doing what he loved the most. Ceaser was the first family dog we ever had. And even though we only got just shy of two years with him, he taught us so many lessons. 1. Live each day like there's no tomorrow. As humans we have the unfortunate ability to understand that we have what seems like all the time in the world. This comes along with the worry of what the future brings and imminent stress that we will face. Watching Ceaser I learned that be content with what today brings. If we are worrying about the future, how we will enjoy the present? 2. No matter what color skin you had, age you were, how much money you made, what clothes you wore, what sexuality you identified with, what religion you practiced, Ceaser loved everyone the same. He approached everyone like they were his friend and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Like Ceaser we should put aside the labels we place on one another and treat everyone like they are our friend. 3. Happiness is the key to life. There wasn't a time when Ceaser wasn't happy. You could give him a tennis ball and he would think that it was the greatest thing ever. It was the simple things that would send him into a fury of panting and tail wagging. His favorite thing to do would be to lay on his back and hold his toys in his paws. I used to just sit there and smile because I knew he was so happy!! 4. Forgiveness. My dad always would say, "You could drop him on his head and he would care," but it was true. There were times when he would get left in his kennel for long day or he would get accidentally get his tail/paws caught in the door, but no matter what he would always lick you as if to say, "It's ok I know you didn't mean it." There are many others that I could list. I am going to remember Ceaser for as long as I live. There will be no other dog like him. It is going to be hard to go home and not have him there, but I know he is up in heaven with Grandma and Grandpa keeping them company. We will get another dog and him/her will be just as special, just in a different way that Ceaser was. Dog's truely are a man's best friend ❤️
