While leaving Seattle I truly noticed how many coffee shops there were. Literally one on every corner. If Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes then Washington is the land of 10,000 Starbucks. Fun fact: next to New York City and Chicago, Seattle has the most Starbuck per person in the nation! Good luck finding any Caribou out there... Back to my trip... the next few days we kept it low key and stayed around Port Townsend, where my aunt and uncle live. It is a cute, little touristy town that reminds me a lot of Grand Marais. First we went to Fort Worden. It was built in the 1900's as a military base designed to protect the Puget Sound. When you are walking on the grounds, it is almost like stepping back in time. All the buildings are kept up and posses very historic architecture. There are barracks, officer quarters, and a mess hall that are all now used for offices, learning spaces, and rentals. The grounds themselves are a state park and have many hiking trails, a beach, and a campground. After Fort Worden, we bummed around in downtown for awhile which included the harbor. Even though many sailboats were out in the port, it was still so picturesque! They had lots of great shops to go into that had artwork, gifts, clothes, jewelry, and food. Outside one of the stores they had this funny sign that made me laugh! 😂 And another inside... but really I can't be the only one who does this! Justin and I collect bottles for our apartment. There was a whole bin of them sitting on the sidewalk that the VFW were selling. I picked out these two unique ones and cleaned them up to take back with me! Both in Seattle and Port Townsend, the flowers were in full bloom. I loved this window box in particular because of how overflowing it was! BEAUTIFUL! Another huge difference I noticed was more bikers! These people must've been going on a longer ride... After all the shopping we got hungry and headed to Quench for lunch. It was super busy, so we knew right away it was going to be good! We all shared clams with chirizo sausage for an appetizer. My mom and I split the rodeo burger with onion rings (left) and my aunt and uncle split the lamb burger. The rodeo burger came with bacon-wiskey jam, pepper jack cheese, bacon, red onion, pickles, and ancho-chile BBQ sauce. DELICIOUS!!! On our way home we had to stop here 😍 😍 The next day we made the trip to Olympus National Park. It was quite the drive up the mountains! The only other time I've experienced those types of roads was back in South Dakota at the Black Hills. What wonderful views though! We were a little concerned if we were going to have too many clouds to see anything but it cleared off just enough! I couldn't believe how green everything was! They have so many more ever greens there then we have. Hardly any deciduous trees (trees that loose their leaves) were in Washington anywhere! Besides Starbucks being everywhere, there are also an abundance of deer in Washington. Nearly everyone has deer fences to stop them from coming and eating flowers and vegetables. One of my uncle's friends made the joke, "They're like the grey squirrels of Washington." He's also from Minnesota and could relate to the oddity😂 These two were just hanging out in the park along the trials. On our way back to Port Townsend we stopped in Port Angeles. My uncle showed us the house they used to live in before moving to Port Townsend. Once we got back, I was so tired and went to sleep early. We only had a couple of days left and so much still to do!
