My New Year's resolution for 2021 is to make my own personal mission statement. Back in pharmacy school, I took leadership emphasis coursework with on of my favorite professors, Dr. Kari Fierke. In those classes we specifically worked on learning and strengthening our leadership skills to help us be leaders not only in the pharmacy school, but to prepare us to be leaders throughout our pharmacy careers. It was such an enlightening experience; a topic I had never been exposed to. I truly believe that those skills I learned have made my life better in all aspects, not just professionally. So I am taking the initiative to continue to learn about self-development in hopes that it will allow me to live a happier, more fulfilling life. In Dr. Fierke's classes, we read the book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. That is and probably will forever be one of the most impactful books I have ever read. In the book, Covey talks about creating mission statements. When I read about them the first time, my brain immediately applied it to mission statements for organizations and businesses. I am now realizing that there are many other applications for missions statements other than for the purpose of financial success. Mission statements, in my opinion, are the compass that point either an individual or a group of individuals on the right path to reach a goal or a common goal. In this application where I am writing a personal mission statement, my goal is to live a happy, meaningful, and fulfilling life both personally and professionally. The first step in this journey of writing my mission statement is to do more self-development activities. This way I can learn more about myself, what is important to me, and reflect on my past life experiences. I came about this podcast through Spotify's Daily Wellness playlist. The Wake Up/Wind Down podcast was frequently included and found that the episodes were short, applicable, and easy to listen to. My goal is to listen to the thirty-one days of mindfulness playlist everyday in the month of February. This is the first day of of thirty-one days of mindfulness with Niall Breslin of the Wake Up/Wind Down podcast. What do I care about in my personal life?
